I have noticed that some of you guys have changed your rear shock for a ZX10R, whats the difference between the two shocks and how much does it improve the rear end as I have been thinking of changing to an Ohlins

Er yes - just read it. Sorry, been away with work.
It takes a bit of effort to fit it, but I reckoned I'd try it as it's a much cheaper option than an Ohlins etc.
It is better IMHO, I'm still fiddling with the setup but just feels more controlled, more compliant and is a bit softer (doesn't try to buck you off on bumps).
I found it easier to source than an 03/04 636 shock and that's why I fitted it - I'm happy with the improvement.

Thanks, better late than never. Is the 636 shock the prefered option?

The bottom end of the shock is a U shape and fits over the linkage. The problem is that the 10r shock is narrower than the Z1000 shock by a couple of mm and so won't go over.
You need to grind out the shock slightly or grind down the bush in the linkage slightly to make it fit.
It's probably easy with the right tools, but I did it the hard, slow manual way and it took ages.
Apart from that - it's not hard. Let me know if you get the shock setup well as I'm still fiddling with the settings on mine.

just fitted zx 10r shock to day no need to grind just use zx 10 r sleeve part no 42036-1258 £4, oil seals part no92049-1225 £6.50 if you don't have access to bolts i would get bolt part no 92153-1546 it is 7mm shorter than z1000 bolt or some 10 mm washers. i found it fitted a bit nicer by leaving the right hand side z1000 seal in place if you have center stand on bike the shocker is best removed from the bottom just unbolt the suspension arms

Is the ZX10 shock the same length as the standard Z shock, i seem to remember reading somewhere that it was about 10mm longer & as i'm a short @rse it may make that option a no go.
