Hi Lister Ignore it mate. like getting Clarkson to drive something thats only 20 grand he will slate it as it's real world not his dreamworld he lives in. all my mates took the piss out of my Z1000 when i bought it. until they rode the arses off their GSXR1000s & R1's and i was still there in the pack after every ride and sometimes out in front with them trying to catch me. just ignore the twat Regards Rick

I agree with rick mate! Also look how the punters rate it after they've played with the suspension (as we all do)...... They love it!

There just isn't a perfect bike out there - either they're flawed, or they're ugly or they're expensive.
The Z1000 was the best compromise for me when I bought mine. The 750 might be the best compromise if I bought again tomorrow.
Couple of tweaks to the stock bike can make a big difference, but I'd rather fit a new shock than have to fit a new engine like to some of the others.... Ignore them...

Haven't read it but I've never come across a slating of the zed (other than the couple of issues already mentioned). The zed improved my riding no end because it's so bloody capable. We know they're talking shite And I ride with litre bikes plus a couple of ktm950's, I stay with them 95% of the time (the other 5% is me bottling out of the twisties ). Be it through town/traffic/twisties/sweeping carriageways, the zed is suited ... actually, give me another week or two, my PMT will kick in and I'll write them a letter

Bike magazine gave it a slating last month and this - mostly down to suspension. You have to wonder how a major manufacturer can make a balls of suspension not once but twice (on the 1000 and the 750). Mines an 05 and it amazes me how it got out of the factory with that rear shock.
The quality of finish on the frame and swinging arm is woeful - they don't even prime the things before they paint them and they don't paint the bits you can't see.
It is a beautiful bike and as soon as the owner makes it into a proper one it is nice to ride but if cars came out of the factory this way they'd go bust, Lancia being a case in point.

I agree, after having 30 plus different bikes, I am well chuffed with my Zed,and I can honestly say there aren't many bikes that could lose me on a decent B road, any knob can blat to 180+,but real riding is all the roads, and in all weathers.I am well chuffed with my Zed ........I sold a gixer k5 to buy this.. and I have never regretted it!!

When the Z750 was released it was proclaimed to be the best bike in its class. It was more roomy, better styled faster and more powerful than all the 600 naked/retro styled bikes at the time. Everyone who owns one knows that they are good at what they do and have a lot of bang for your bucks. Ok so perhaps there is a better bike out now but the 1st Zed was out over 4 years ago which is a lifetime in GSXR years as they release a lighter and faster model every year, brimming with the latest must have brakes/zorsts and techno gimics but some bikes become icons and others simply get overlooked or dismissed as being old hat after being initially enjoyed and revered.
Like what you've got? good enough for me.
That's why one of my bikes is 14 years old and i've spent £5000 on it already and more to come and its a shitty little 250 2 stroke but its my shitty little 250 2 stroke and more to the point.........my £5000!
Journalists forget one crucial point.....we get a new bike once every few years, not every few weeks so we look for something that appeals to our pocket as well as our eye. We chose a bike on reviews and overall all roundedness and how it makes us feel. If we like it after we buy it then we rave about it, shouting from the highest tower that it fulfills our every waking need in a two wheeled sense and we form small communities with others who are likeminded. In this environment we discuss the pros and cons of such contraptions and scoff at the words of disbelievers. I suggest we do just that ;D
