Sounds electrical coz most bikes have a rev limiter connected to 1st, 2nd and 6th gear.

Didn't know that. Why those three gears and none of the rest of them ?

I'll try the clutch switch. I'll also have a go at seeing if it cuts out in 1st or 2nd.

Apparently, those gears are to stop wheelying it to death or riding flat out. Also see if you can by-pass the side-stand switch? A mate of mine had this same problem on a CBR (older one) and turned out to be a dodgy connection on the side-stand.
