Hi all,can anyone who has had this service done at a main dealers tell me what should be done,as i was just told oil/filter,air filter clean and nut /bolt check for £140.....thought this was a tad steep for just them few changes,as the handbook says to also check the engine vacuum syn,as my bike seems a bit sluggish, and idle a bit up/down.
According to kwak dealer, its only checked if its really needed, like the plugs apparently??

You were well ripped off mate. Definately needs new plugs, oil and filter plus the sync done. Loads of things to be checked. It's all in the handbook or the workshop manual. I was charged £70 for the same crap service as you and did it again myself when I got home. The only reason I let them near it was to get the book stamped for warranty purposes.

The law changed recently to the effect that if your work is done by a qualified, independant mechanic and as long as he uses genuine manufacturers' parts your warranty can't be invalidated. That's the best route to go if you can find a good mechanic. The only downside is that you lose any goodwill from the dealer or Kawasaki. In my case it turned out that there was none from either of them in any case.

Bought the bike in Bangor but went for the service in Lurgan. To be honest I have a very low opinion of KMUK and their dealer network. I had an issue with rust on the frame and had to threaten legal action to get anything done. Is that Whites in Darlington where you bought yours ? Jeff Kernoghan in Belfast gets a very good name.
Rich - lubing the chassis is bloody hard to do. The above mentioned dimwits certainly didn't do it. I gave up on the head bearings and swinging arm - you need too many 'special' tools. Next time round I'm going to remove as much as I can and take the bike to Kernoghan's for that.

Why don't kwak sell these special tools?
I could'nt even get an oil filter tool from them and went to another manufacturer of bikes and they sold me one for three quid. Just dont get it.....I know its money but why not better in thier pockets rather than some one else's?....H***a.

Have you tried Cradley Kawasaki ? I didn't even try to buy them as I thought they would cost a lot in comparison to the use I would get out of them.

To be honest I haven't tried to get any special tools from kawasaki just because they would'nt sell me an oil filter tool. And when I asked for one the guy said they dont sell tools so I assumed this was any tool. Has anyone got special tools from them that you know of ? Maybe I should start another link.

Have you got a copy of the manual ? At the start of each section there is a list of special tools with part numbers for them so I assume you can buy them. If you need a manual you can get one here: z1000.riderdestination.com/

Just thinking about the oil filter - I hammered a screwdriver through mine and got it off that way. I tried the old wrapping a belt round it trick but there wasn't enough room to get at it. I replaced it with a K&N which has a nut welded onto the front of it so it should be easy next time.

yes I do have the manual on pdf. Have you seen the trouble shooting guide at the very back? I didn't think that so much could go wrong.
