Question for all you fellow Z owners, had my bike from new, purchased in Feb this year, noticed some rust appearing in one of the welds in the headers a few weeks ago, these pipes are supposed to be stainless but with a strange silver satin coating, had the 4000 mile service done a couple of weeks ago and pointed out the rust, the sales guy immediatly put in a warrenty claim on my behalf, also had to e-mail photos of the rust to Kawasaki UK, just heard my claim has been rejected, Quote "not warrantable" Anyone else come across this problem on the Z, must admit I'm not very impressed with the response so far!

My frame on a 05 Z750 is rusting like there is no tomorrow. Kawasaki were giving me the same guff as you are getting but have been 'persuaded' to see the light. The sale of goods act is a wonderful thing for that purpose. There is a thread about it in the Z750 section.

The problem with rust is it is not a manufacturing defect it is the cause and effect of something outwith the control of Kawasaki. And is probably acceptable due to the position and exposure of the exhaust to the elements Looking at the fotos it looks like a surface coating of a brown dust that has baked on to the exhaust from somewhere else, and has a trace of what could be water marks at the bottom of the main piccie, that said it is also on the rear of the link between 2-3 pots.(No I don't mean to say you don't clean the bike ) But if piccies have been email to K then they, Kwak, have made the descion not the dealer I know you probably don't want to upset the dealer but stick to your guns if you think your right but don't get upset and shout at them be reasonable and as polite as possible(as when people shout at me I am less inclined to be helpful!). The sale of goods act is a difficult one because the bike is still fit for the purpose it was sold for, unlike Marco as the rust affecting the frame is really a safety issue. I have managed Warranty for a large car dealership for 6 years now and get very similar claims regarding rust on exhausts! And from experince most warranties from most maufactures, bikes and cars, won't cover external corrosion:) Just my thoughts.(I'm not preaching just try to point in right direction) ;D Hope it's useful

Spoke to K uk yesterday, the brown stain does come off with a good old brillo pad, they've noted the claim and if the problem gets any worse, they'll consider a replacement, now the pipes have cleaned up I've treated them with acf50, not overly worried about it now as they've reassured me that should it get serious they'll take action, curiously the pipes arnt coated so using a wire pad to clean them wont do any damage!

QUOTE..don't get upset and shout at them be reasonable and as polite as possible(as when people shout at me I am less inclined to be helpful!). your dead right there zedhead.you have to remind yourself in heated times that the majority of these guys who work at bike shops are bikers themselves and will do all they can.my header pipes look the same unless i scrub em.
