I am getting quite a lot of rust round the back end of the bike. It's on the chain adjuster markers and the top of the shock where the mounting mets the main body of the unit. Anybody else in the same position?

Hello mate, yeah I've had some problems with rust on the shock and also the paint flaking off the rear footrest hangars. It seems Kawasaki aren't quite so good with the built quality in general! Various fasteners are heading the same way as-well I'm planning to replace the fasteners with stainless and get a few parts resprayed to try and stay on top of it.

Hi Guys
Rust ahhh and lots of it, had it on the rear hangers, rear shock, chain adjusters and under the head stock, I got all these sorted out after a threat that I would publish the pictures on my website and send the link to MCN, Mag and the BMF, Kawasaki were not going to do anything before that, now I have a new frame and various bits and pieces RUST free.
I now use ACF-50 it's a rust stopper and should hopefully stop the Rust developing in the first place, here's hoping....
Bit worried about using it in all weathers now and will only use in bad weather if the cars out of action, it's bad I know but I want to keep the Bike as apart from the False Neutrals and Rust it's a great Bike.
Cheers

Yeah I've noticed it round the bottom of the headstock now aswell. Did your dealer sort it or did you have to go to Kawasaki? Mines 10 months old and is coming up to first service time (7500 miles) and I want to go into the dealer with some ammunition.

I have no pitting on mine and it goes out in the winter. There are protectors on there that are supposed to stop that. I haven't got rust on the span adjusters either. It appears Kawasaki cut corners on finish and quality of materials. Can you imagine a car manufacturer doing that?

It's also on the frame behind the top right hand engine mounting bracket now. I took it back to the dealer last week and believe it or not he claims the official Kawasaki line is to clean it off and see if it comes back. If it does he photographs it and sends the pictures to KMUK. He hadn't a clue about the service intervals so I decided to go to another dealer who took photos there and then and is sending them off. I'm getting the feeling that this is going to be a long hard fight.

Hi Marco
Sorry for the late reply, been on Holiday.
The Dealer did nothing worth mentioning, a big waste of time.
I went directly to Kawasaki uk, call Simon Chitty on 01628 856600 and give him some grief, I had to make threats to get mine sorted which is a bloody joke, but there you go.
Good Luck Mark

Just got the word from KMUK today that it is 'surface rust' and they are unwilling to do anything about it. It looks like I might have to go the legal route which is a major pain. The car trade sorted this sort of nonsense out years ago but it seems we're still stuck with it.

Marco
Sorry to hear you are getting grief of Kawasaki, when I had the problems I made threats to show the photos on a web site and then send the links to the BMF, Mag and MCN. Maybe give it a go, they will try anything to get out of the Warranty Claims.
Good Luck.
Cheers Mark
