As above - ive not thrown up for a bit....went out on the zed yesterday - not been out on it for a couple of reasons....
1. Its been hot as - too hot to ride a bike with all the kit on (i wouldnt go out without it) and 2. Bought an electric skateboard (my new whip for work) so ive been using that as its been...so fucking hot..!
Anyway - went out yesterday and the front brakes (the right hand caliper locked up). Stopped on the side of the road - waited for the caliper to cool down - got the tool kit out and prized the pads out with Mr Screwydriver....got home and pulled it all apart....

They look nice on the outside but underneath where it counts the nickel plating has come away.....as this is an allrounder (the zeds usage) so thats only going to get worse, and probably contributed to the caliper lockup.....so, soon-ish, theyre coming off (again!) and getting Cerakoted....Dave at Techcoat has gloss black in stock but i may go for something else....not sure yet...so ill throw up again when they go....
Ive cleaned them up and re-assembled for the short term so more pics'll go up when they start to look pretty...!

Yeah - but the calipers might be shot....once id pulled them apart (ill put up the pics in a minute) the weather has got into the alloy itself and eaten away at the edge of the casting where the dust seals are held in....so, im taking them down to the coater tonight to get him to blast them (and more importantly the affected area). If the blasting literally blasts away the affected area and it cant house a dust seal then theyll literally have to go in the bin....we'll have to wait and see....!

So, as you can see the edge of the area where the dust seal is held in is thin, but solid...(ive been using a pic to scratch away at it) - if my pic went through completely then they couldnt go back on the bike......but it seems solid so we'll see if it stands up to blasting....
If theyre shot....then its back to ebay/the net for replacements - they werent cheap....(cost me 700) and while they were working i fucking loved the feel and the braking force that they gave...very reasurring.....

Well, as ive said before "never skiimp on tyres and brakes" - about 6 weeks ago those old HPK's saved me....i was in the bus lane and a plumbers van turned left on me with no warning....the old hpks gave incredible feel and even though pulling an emergency stoppie (back wheel right in the air) they save me planting the zed in the side of his van....!
Scored a set off of ebay...theyd done about 50 miles and come off of a show bike....at the start of the week there were 12 watching them and went up to 22 by friday so my assumption is people are waiting for payday so jumped in friday night...cost me a grand....cant afford it (stuck them on paypal 0% account which i just fucking cleared) - its a worthwhile investment though...
The selller said hed paid 1700 for them but im finding them at 1300 odd new so ive still saved money....you tube video incoming.

Well, what can i say...! The level of braking goes up again....didnt think the HPK's could be topped but here we are...theyve not bedded in yet but initial feel is, well, lovely.....worth the cash...pics follow in a min when i get out in the garage to take a couple of shots with them on there.....
