Hi all, still discovering the forum, realised I've opened a new thread in a wrong topic:) long story short i’ve managed to break the frame in an accident. As there were no other vehicles/objects involved i didn't declared it to the insurance company. Engine is running and most of the parts are ok. my only option is to repair the bike now. assuming the frame below can’t be repaired(otherwise pls advise, places/ costs), i need to buy a new frame. From dealership it would cost £1200. I’ve found a blank one(no v5 no numbers on the frame) but it’s 2017 (JHF) and my bike is 2014 (FEF) What are my chances for them to be compatible? in both cases, where would i have the best chances to stamp the VIN in a factory-like look? Thanks!

First and foremost im not sure about the legality of the transfer of the VIN - if the fame is as you say, blank then it seems like "thats something that could be done"....youve got the frame off so youve done the hard part....is the frame on ebay?/ask the seller - get photos of all angles of the frame so you can marry it up (explain what you want to do...they may be able to advise)....i can only presume the newer model frame might have some newer lugs and fittings for the newer model (there might be lugs or holes for mounting the ABS pump) - youve got the same model as me i think (no abs on mine) - but essentially id say its the same.... With regards to getting the engine numbers stamped for the factory look - i would say a metal fabricator....(that would be my first port of call) If you dont mind me asking - what the f*** did you do to crack the frame? !!! Also - if you do get the frame....put up a build thread...loads of pics....always nice to see a build thread!!

As far as i’ve read this days, i’m pretty sure it’s legal to transfer the vin as long as the old frame is crushed. Below is from gov.uk Keep a vehicle’s original registration number
A rebuilt vehicle can keep its original registration number if you can prove you’ve used:
the original unmodified frame (motorbike)
a new frame of the same specification as the original (motorbike)
You must also have 2 other major components from the original vehicle from the following lists.
For motorbikes: forks/ wheels/ engine/ gearbox
Even from the dealership frames are coming unstamped, so it would be the same process Yeah, frame from ebay but i would go to pick it up myself...indeed no abs frame it is:) .. ‘ If you dont mind me asking - what the f*** did you do to crack the frame?!!!‘ —i was an IDIOT!! Yeah..it was a lowside but the bike hit the kerb(rear wheel) and compressed the spring and it kinda smashed the underside- also rear wheel is broken...so it was a bit of a shock.. but rest of the bike seemed to be surprisingly in good condition. Also - if you do get the frame....put up a build thread...loads of pics....always nice to see a build thread!!- one way or another...i will get it build and will post pics:)

Wow - how unlucky is that!!!
Wheels: got a mate that might have a set spare...probably will only part with the pair though...he talked of getting them painted...hes got the same model and colour as ours...
Done your research on the frame (good!) - id say next step is to get the pics....sounds weird but, i would cut the old frame and keep the area where the serial number is (then you can prove you owned the original frame)
I reckon youll be good - how much is the frame without the serial number just out of curiosity...?

Already have all the parts for it...except the frame.i’ve bought the rear wheel sh for £200 with disc and tyre(which is ok’ish) sprockets are getting changed anyway.
The frame was listed for £550..my only doubts, now talking about it is why would someone have a blank frame:-? Like any bike that is coming out of the factory has a number on it..seems a bit weird.

It is a bit off... every factory frame come with a VIN. Smells a bit fishy this one.
