Hi, I bought this six weeks ago after being out of biking for a while. She is a DAF but was registered late 2013 (don't know why, maybe old stock). It is a one owner bike, Kwacka service history (every year not mileage), 6300 miles and came with the following: headlamp protector, MRA screen, Beowulf radiator cover, R&G crash bungs, R&G fork protectors, R&G frame bungs, Heal gear indicator, genuine Kawasaki tank pads and......a luggage rack!!!?? I binned the luggage rack, put on a tail tidy with smaller indicators, changed the end cans to SP Engineering carbon stubby ones, put on Bad Dog adjustable levers and hard wired a battery optimiser plug. I also changed the number plate for a slightly smaller one to clear the indicators properly (7.5" x 6"). She is absolutely immaculate and I doubt has ever seen rain. I intend to keep it that way!

The gen3 has longer gearing so is alot smoother to ride and it's also has the higher top speed out of the 2 but the gen4 has alot more torque so makes it shift alot faster the gearing is shirt which makes it ride like a crosser

I like the green on the Gen3! I didn't actually know they did the green with the polished rims, otherwise I may have gone for that; Kawasakis should really be green, shouldn't they?
I wanted the gen3 because of the polished rims, cos I like to polish! I am not a fan of white bikes but the orange is lovely, so much so I am planning to spray the hugger and possibly chain guard in the burnt orange.
I looked for a year (yes a year) to find the right bike. There have not been many around for sale this year.
I am surprised no-one has asked how I managed to get a front paddock stand to fit, what with the radial calipers (so the roller type arms won't fit) and the fork tightening bolt inside one of the forks (so the pin type won't fit either)!

I didnt notice....(the paddock stand thing) my paddock stand has kind of rubber pads so as long as you get it roughly underneath your good...not the best in the world though...in fact just last week i bought a yoke mounted jobbie so ill be trying that soon....
Zeds are a bit of a rareity anyway...something i like...cos theres not many around, but then, theyre not as popular as id like as i think theyre a vastly underrated bike....

I don't know why there aren't more Zeds around. I must say the build quality is much better than Kwackas of old. They always used to be a bit cheap with their paint and wheels would corrode if they even looked at rain or salt!
Maybe it's the lack of 'modern electronic rider aids'. If so, don't see why. If you need a 'rain map' to stay upright, you should catch the bus IMO. My bike hasn't got ABS, but then I've never had one with ABS so no problem for me. I saw a 50cc scooter parked up the other day; that had ABS!!
I did have a look at the alternatives: Yam MT10; don't like Yamahas (except a yellow 1978 RD400DX, I'd have one of them) and not comfy. Honda CB1000; ugly. Triumph speed triple; ugly and questions over reliability. Suzuki GS1000; never been a fan of Suzis. BMW R1000R; too expensive. Italians; too expensive and too mad!
At the end of the day I'm a Kwacka fan; I've had about 20 bikes in my time and only 2 weren't Kwacks (oh and I bought a CR125 crosser once on a whim, but then realised I had nowhere to ride it, so that doesn't count!!).
I'm seriously looking to get a KLX250 for the little lanes around my way too and I'm watching several KH250s on the Bay, as they were childhood icons of mine.

Very nice Kawa.. and the big Z is defo underated. . Was at Oulton park this weekend and I didn't see another z ..plenty of race reps but no z1000, kinda lkie the exclusiveness and the Zed always gets some attention .
I don't think peeps realise that 160 bhp is easily obtainable and I just stuck a set of Brembo brake pads in my gen 4 which has really improved the brakes. . Standard pads were always a bit wooden.

I sold my gen3 and kept the gen4 for various reasons ( newer & less miles) and bought a ktm 990 I've had it a month and I'm selling it to buy another gen3 miss mine too bloody much so for me now it's zeds all the way
