Insurance and being honest

So my currant insurance was ending on the 25th june, and as i had bought some goodies for the bike and didn't want to waste over a thousand pounds on these if the worse happened, so i phoned my insurance broker to tell them, thinking they would up my premium by a few quid, atleast but i would be covered, so tells the guy i had fited some carbon fibre parts, and as one of the front disc was warped [ found out due to an MOT] i had replaced the disc on the front with better aftermarket items, so the bike stops better, after a few minutes the guy comes back to me, sorry he said, can't insure you anymore you will have to go else where, [ this is One Call Insurance!]   you can imagine my feelings right about then!
So goes on line and finds Carole Nash with the best deal, £178 fully comp, £5 more than what the new policy would have been from One Call, buys it, but made a cock up filling in the online form, with regards my old ER5 than got stolen and burnt out in Feburary this year, so all day i have been thinking I'm i covered? comes home from work and phones them up and explains to the guy on the other end, told him i fitted the new parts and got the same asnwer can't insure you, the insurance was with Axa.
 Sitting there pulling my hair out now, i will put you though to our sales team, ok i said, and this lovley woman on the line speaks to me, tell her again about the add parts, and the brakes, she said you have upgraded the brakee, i suppose so i reply, she comes back with a quote of £353. So to cut a long story short if you add parts to your bike, exhaust pipes, power commanders etc etc and its not the same as it came out of the shop you are not covered,  either that or just lie to them, when you think, just changing to better brake pads or bulbs you are not covered, there must be millions of cars,trucks buses and bikes etc running around our roads not covered.

I have had the same issue in the past, but if you change your tyres, brake pads, worn out fork springs etc.... then you are effectively changing the bikes original specification was my argument. Basically you are taliking to a telephone operator who is completing 'tick boxes' and has no knowledge of what you are saying or 'risk'. Some say modified bikes are more 'nickable' but having seem many variations on this, I would not always agree lol.

Try e-bike as you can tick all the modifications you want and the only thing that changes the premuim is a horse power increase, exhaust/filter/remap.

One insurer told me so long as the forks/brakes where from Kawasaki and did not jackup/lower the bike, then it was ok.

You did the right thing by declaring your changes. All very frustrating.

Im just about to insure with BeMoto. They were 200 quid cheaper than MCE (ive got 4 bikes to insure on a multi bike policy) i told them about all the mods, full systems, ecu flashes etc etc and it came in at 630 quid for the 4. MCE wanted almost 800 quid and while they didnt mind the mods (they have a blank policy of replacing any modded stuff with oem) they hiked the price as my wife has had 3 accidents in our car (my policy) 2 of which werent her fault...theyve loaded it every year... oh, the policy has better cover and they dont charge to make changes after the policy has gone live, plus i get RAC cover on all of them nationally also.

Thanks guys, ok the price has gone up to double what i was paying, but the good news, [ there's good news!] the exess went from £600 down to £125,  i was thinking about all the car make over shows on the telly, and where they replace old crappy brakes and servo's etc then sell the car for a profit, we hope they tell the people buying, the mods they did?

Just to say Keef ive put my money where my mouth was and insured with BeMoto - 200 quid cheaper than MCE, better cover and RAC gold support. Ive lost track day cover (never used it anyway) and the ability to ride another bike 3rd party (which im not too bothered about as last time i did it ended up in one written off r6) so all in all brilliant.

i fessed up this year and went to a specialist insurer this year, Performance Direct and the premium went up approx a third to around £400. not too bad i spose its got quick shifter, full system, flashed and various cosmetic changes.

Sorry haven't been on here as much as i would like, but all i seem to do is sleep and work,  last time i looked it was April, then some one said to me the other day no we are in June now, were the heck did May go?
Anyway that time of the year to insure the bike again, paid £353.00 fully comp last year and another one years N.C.D so was hoping it would be going down a lot, get's the letter though the post few days back its gone up to £354.00 ok its only a pound but its gone up, i did an online search and found Bennets for £188 with legal cover, helmets, break down etc which i have now, so phonned up Carole Nash and told the guy on the other end, "Hang on a min, he comes back the best we can do is £191, done i said! he's the crunch line, the exess last year was  £125 this time its £500, they have you by the short and curlies everytime!!!

Or you could go with MCE. They dont care what you do to your bike...the only thing they do say is if the worst happens they just replace with stock parts....my insurance is just about to come up with BeMoto in 2 weeks so we'll see what i get through the post although the Hyper wont be going back on for the moment as the motor is in a million pieces so that'll make the initial hit cheaper although ive gotten 3 points since last time.
