So. I have a 2015 cb1000r but I feel. Compared to other naked bikes it's really down on power... Anyway the MT10 hit the market and I test Road one. The engine is amazing but the brakes are horrible. The finish on the MT10 just fees cheap also I don't get the riding mode nonsense and have never had the need for traction control in 22 yrs of riding. I am test riding a z1000 this week and can't wait. Love the fact it's kept the twin exhausts and the front end has grown on me. I like the look of the new matt grey and red addition. How are people getting on with their latest edition Z..
Also will they be changing the model anytime soon? Ta...

Where to I start....well, I may be jumping around but here we go....
1. First and foremost....I think the current zed is the best one out there....there, I said it, but as you can see from my posts I might be classed as a little biased...backing it up....
I did say in another post I saw my first MT-10 in the flesh earlier this week....and like you, feels pretty cheap. ive never liked the styling of any of the MT range but that's personal preference....some could say the same about, say for example KTM, but I like the KTM styling. IMO to put a comedy slant on it to me, the Yam management gave the MT-10 design team a box of fuzzy felt and said "don't come back until you've used all the shapes".....et voila... I find the other 2 MT's "too tall" at the front of the bike if that sounds weird....
Back to the zed, and you, to a certain extent. For me, I like to make a bike my own, hence all the posts....if youre the sort of person that doesn't touch a bike and leaves it stock then you could almost agree with the reviews, more at the bottom of the current pack but a good solid performer. If youre like me and want to get the best out of it then id say with a collection of relatively easy mods you can put it round the top of the pack, this is my opinion of course but as ive said on a couple of occasions mine will sit of the back wheel of an R1m up to prison time speeds... which tells me its up round the top of the pack, and, afterall naked's are more about brute force/power then handling comes second....
I think the front/all the styling is the best thing about it. It is, without doubt the best looking naked at the moment. Naked's to be should be short, fat, and stocky....that's the zed. In stark contrast the monster has one of the most uninspiring front ends ever, hate the light, just, well, boring. They styled the bike from back to front and when they got to the front...it was lunch break so they thought, it, round will do...
If you told me "your zed has to go - you must choose something else..." then first would be the SDR1290, but I wouldn't buy that now as the cost is stratospheric to the zed....case in point, even my wife saw one while we were in traffic and she said "you can have one of those" but youd have to sell 2 of your bikes to have it...(ive got 3 bikes) - so I could have one right now if I wanted but prefer keeping my zed and the other 2. The other bike I would have secondly would be the tuono. But, again id be forced into it as ive got an RSV4 so I don't want another v4 and for me it would be a step down on styling....the tuono is almost an RSV4 apart from the straight bars and belly pan missing....too close to a full on racer...
As for electronics, I test rode an s1000r 2 weeks before I got the zed. Ironically ive never test rode a bike before in my life. I had an s1000r lined up, ready to buy, thought, well, I may as well have a go on one....hated it. Didn't like the electronics, vibey bars, heated grips didn't get hot enough, made my shoulders hurt, too tall and to cap it all I took the test ride home, pulled up outside the house (at this point I was almost willing it to be good..) knocked on the front door and said to my son "whaddaya think of that then son....!" he took one look and said, "its a bit rubbish dad, it looks crap.." spun on his heel and went back in the house... that was the nail in the coffin for me.
Went to the kawk shop, sat on one and instantly thought....this is the one for me....
Anyway, id be interested to hear your thoughts....and any other gen4 owners for that matter...

Few have white ones but I don't want white. So it looks like I will either have to go down the used route or wait for next year's bikes :-(

You should be able to find one nationally (I do like the sugomi jobbies) the burgundy one....
If your happy with that - imagine what you drove there then increase everything from the motor by 10% with all the work done....ie exhaust and ecu work...glad you liked it...brilliant bikes....although having said that ive seen quite a few good secondhanders recently really cheap....I do prefer the non abs...

I've never had abs on a bike. My current cb1000r is non abs and I've never had the need for it tbh. I like the sugomi one but there is no more of those. There are a couple of used ones about but 100s of miles from me. The Z handles so well and the brakes are amazing the difference between the brakes on my CB is ridiculous. There are some good deals on non abs but I want the 2016 with the slipper clutch and I believe they are all abs. I'll keep hunting I'm sure something will come up.
