Last year I did notice that my suspension felt very stiff so at the start of this season I took my bike up to www.ersracing.co.uk/ at knockhill to set my suspension up and I cant recommend getting this done enough. What a different it makes it’s like a different bike especially when you come out of bends and I’ve not had a numb bum on a long trip.

Which gen have you got Baz? the only reason I ask is ive just had my gen 4 set up....ive got a nitron r3 on the rear and since he's (unity road mc's nr Bristol) has done it its been amazing but I know it will be better once ive got shot of the m7rr's on there at the moment...don't like them atall....ive got a set of Avon's to go on there (making a point of trying out tyres for myself rather than reading reviews) hence the m7rr purchase...read the reviews, believed the hype and bought the tyres and theyre crap imo....they were touted as being able to rival the supercorsa....not a chance...not even close...I bought a set to replace my knackered supercorsa's on my rsv4, scrubbed them in and definitely not confidence inspiring atall, back steps out on corner exit even with the slightest of gas. I took them straight off and put them on the zed as I had just bought it at the time and the oem tyres were totally shot thinking it must be me...and sure enough they were just as bad if not worse on the zed. Last time I buy those....the other thing was the wear time...theres a lad that I chat with on the duc forum who has a 1290 and he's trashed his set in 1.5k so anyone who says you can get 4 -6k out of a set is just driving the thing round in the back of a van...
Digressing somewhat...anyway...yeah, to anyone out there - get your suspension set up by someone who knows!!
Oh yeah - if anyone out there has a gen4 and wants to know the optimum set up for a 15 stone porker ill throw my settings up if the need them! - I can only give you my front settings unless you've got a nitron r3 rear then your more than welcome to the rear settings also....

Hi comfysofa I have the gen 3 with the standard rear shock and a Hyperpro's Progressive Front Fork Spring Kit fitted by previous owner. I couldn't believe the difference and all it cost the set the suspension up was £90 and don't think it's a 5 minute job far from it. Your on and off the bike as its getting set up for you weight and then he takes your pride and joy out just to make sure that it feels correct. then finally you get a chance to go out and come back with a huge grin on your face...its just bloody great.

Well after feeling most of the bumps on the road, i took the plunge and bought an ABBA stand, with front wheel lift, cost me £145 and today i set it up on the bike so i could check the suspension, first off i Abba stands, when you do your videos on you tube, tell people they need a flat surface to work on, my back yard has a slight slope so the bike would only go up on back wheel, fitted the front lift bars and the strap so could now get the front up, blimey what an effort, trying to push down on tail unit and pull the strap, didn't want to know, so gave up, again this could be down to having a slope in backyard, anyway tried lifting the rear wheel to see if any play in the swingarm, [ or sag!] nothing, solid, pushed down on tail again nothing, its a lot different to what you see on the video's, so thought the rear shock was wound up to much, got my C-spanner out, couldn't get a grip in the end went for a slot screwdriver and hammer to loosen the lock nut, and did the same with adjuster, tightened the locknut back up, and then that was it, i wanted to test ride her but got called to do something else, so will have to find out inthe morning on the way to work if its better or worse than before, will tell you know.

Rode to work this morning and what a difference, the backend now rolls over the bumps, its only the deeper pothole and manholes that are still a problem but think that is for everyone.

Good - glad you got a result....which gen zed do you have....I never did think to say that if you do have a gen4 and you need a copy of my settings youre more that welcome but my rear is a nitron r3 so the rear may not be relevant...

different front forks as well! so any settings ive got will be useless....id say if youre not sure pay a local shop 30 quid for them to set it up correctly and, ask if them for the static sag to be set against your weight....as they'll normally try to do the whole lot without you which while not wrong is not entirely accurate either...
