So i'v only had the Z1000 for 2 days now but what I have noticed is that when its in gear the rev's are erratic but when I take it out of gear the revs stay constant. Is this a Kawasaki thing or is there a problem.

That is not typical, i wonder if the clutch is dragging!? How does the bike run on the road?
I would start with an oil and filter change.

Runs perfect but saying that the clutch lever is a bit heavy

With the rear on a paddock stand, put the bike in first gear and see if you can turn the rear wheel with the clutch lever pulled in....

So it tuned out to be a loose connector block that connects the clutch lever assembly to the electrics. The block has a little retaining tab that had been undone and not clicked back in place.
