Hi Mark, I would suggest two approaches:
1) battery is flat / dead - recharge this over night, if no joy try connecting another battery to prove it is or is not a battery issue.
2) immobilisier has cut in due to flat battery. Disconnect the positive and negative trerminal leads from the battery and touch both these leads together. What you are doing here is totally discharging all power / capacitors in the bikes electrical system. Then reconnect the leads back to the battery and try to start the bike.
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the advise,My bike has no immobiliser but does have a Power Commander fitted,Not sure if that might be causing a problem..Will touching the 2 battery leads together not cause any problems.....

I am only suggesting connecting the two leads together that are normally attached to the battery, ie touch the leads that you will have disconnected and now have no power going through them However as you correctly point out there is no immobiliser fitted to the 03-04 Z1000's, these were only fitted on the 2005 models and onwards. Therefore my original suggestion will not have any value. Please check and rule out that the battery is not the issue. I will dig out the Z1000 workshop manual and see what it says against the EFI fault light. You could try and disconnect the power commander to rule out this as the cause.

looks like things will be getting difficult for home diagnostics, if it is not the battery or Power commander, might save you some grief by taking it to Kawasaki to have a look at.
If you send me a personal message with your postal address, I will send you a CD with the service manual on if you would like it?

Lol, nice one. When you get a clicking sound, 99% of the time it is a duff battery. Glad you are mobile again.
