MAP sensor ?

While i had the tail piece off yesterday wiring up an alarm, at the o/s/r of the frame near the lights wiring, i noticed a small sensor(MAP) with a pipe coming out the bottom of it, should there be some sort of vacuum tube attached to this pipe?.

The sensor looked like this -

Just read the workshop manual pdf, and it shows this sensor as an atmospheric pressure sensor, so does that mean then it should not have anything connected to it?.
