What is the best way to adjust the chain on the Z750?

Just do it the way it says in the manual but before you tighten up the axle nut make sure you get hold of the seat and give the back wheel a good boot forward. Also make sure that both of the plates with the alignment marks are sitting flat on top of the swinging arm as they wiggle about a bit. I have found that mine moves on accasion so now when I tighten up the axle nut I make sure the adjuster bolts are good and tight against the back of the swinging arm before I do up the locknuts.

cheers again marco, I know what I was doing wrong now. Had the bike lifted up on my new abba stand with the suspension hanging down instead of on my paddock stand with the bikes weight on the swing arm. Glad I never sold my rear paddock stand.

You have to do it with the bike on the sidestand.

Disagree Marco- the weight is distributed better on the paddock stand (closer to riding conditions). Feel free to call me a twat if you don't agree. You got to check the chain tension again after tightening the big nut due to swing arm flex. The chain will often be tighter than you expected. Had bikes back from qualified service engineers with the chain too tight 'cause they never did a final check.

Kawasaki say do it with the bike on the sidestand and it's always worked well for me. Chances are it makes no difference and it would be a lot easier your way. In fact I suppose they only recommend that because not everyone will have a paddock stand. I'll give it a go next time.

Once new a guy who adjusted his chain suspending the bike off sky hooks LAL. More than one way to skin a cat bro. Like anything, if the end result is the same, who gives a f**k.

Also beware of 'tight spots' on your chain, once tightened, rotate the wheel slowly whilst checking chain tension all the way round, you'd be surprised just how 'oval' some sprockets can be mate, always worth checking.
