Anyone ever attempted taking the headlight unit apart on their zed thou? I've got hold of a couple of projector lamps, and I was thinking about mounting them in the back of the original headlight assembly? I saw a zx6 with angel eyes, like bmws have, how do they get them in if the headlight is a sealed unit? Would've thought they'd look 'Chav', but they actually looked good!

Hi Matt. Not done a z1000 one but did do my zx7r headlight. It was held together with black mastic/glue like stuff. All i did was heat the whole glass area up with a hairdryer and eventually it will just put apart. I then reheated the mastic (as it had gone hard over a couple of hours of messing about )and just pushed the glass back in to place. It really was a very easy job to do,hope this helps.

You could always use summat like thisI put a green led side light in mine, which looks a bit different but projector lights would be really different I think

They look really cool, but I'm a bit wary of opening my headlight.
My missus is going to get me some LEDs for my birthday to highlight up the bike!

Andy, I emailed them about the angel eyes, and they said you have to take the headlight apart to put it in, I'm a bit dubious of that, it's an expensive thing to replace if I fcuk it up! I had the standard set up but everyone kept telling me I had a headlight out, so I wired up both lamps, then people flashed me for being on main beam, so I have blue leds instead of headlight bulbs and white led strip running lights for now...

I like the way you've got them leds along the top of the light. Are they mounted on the outside ? I want to run some along the bottom of the light ala Audi Also when you say blue leds, do you mean led bulbs ? Might seem a stoopid question, but am wondering how much light they give out on a night.

Andy, the LED strips are self adhesive, just stuck on the otside of the light. I was planning on doing them R8 style, but mounting them at the top means you can hide the wiring easier. The headlights are only blue side lights (6 leds on a 501 mount). I just popped a couple of old H7s and crimped them on. I don't ride at night, but at only 5W each they would not be bright enough. I may change them for white, as I', worried the blue will upset pc plod? Kents clan, I've seen those modules, they seem expensive. The other problem is it's not just about the power emitted by the lamp, its the projection of the light from the headlight. If you look at the reflectors, the one which is your main beam is constructed to shine the light in a different spread to the dip beam side. Wiring them to work together is simple, and you could experiment with heatsinked dump resistors to achieve the power drop. Matt.
