What can I say but it is a blast!!! Day started at 5.00 in the morning(yes there is 2 in a day),actually, I lie it started on Wednesday when I striped the front for the track and Thursday did the rear and loaded the van. Little bit of rain when we set of but got worse and woserer! until just before Mkt Rasen iwas bouncing of the road to about 1ft high . Got to Cadwell about 7.20 waiting for registration still raining but eased off alot Track not flooded so day went ahead. It was raining on first session(I hate the rain ) so fast lads(about 25-30) went out first then the intermediates (againabout 25-30)inc me. Now I don't claim to be a fast rider but even in the wet( i really do hate) I was doing ok. (Thought I might be bolt up right and pottering round).Visor kept steaming up and felt a couple of moments from the front. Came in readjusted my tyre pressures and went out for the 2nd session, lot better handling.Although it was now down to sporadic rain and by the end of the session it had stopped .My bloddy visor would not stop steaming up tried all sorts but no luck. Went to see organisers and down graded my self to novice group as I felt I was now getting in the way of the rest of the group (still wasn't last though!!!). I now went out in the 3+4th sessions with the Novice group which had all of 5 people in it Cadwell with a track to myself virtually oh what fun.One guy on a ZX6 and cb500(he swappwed) race ,was something to do with the organisors I think, as he had their stickers on th bike I couldn't catch him on either bike ;D. Start roll out of holding area in to woodlands/hall bends a set of s bends nice and steady right, left, right, left, followed by Hairpin 1st gear(exiting about 35ish) short squirt into 2nd to Barn Turn on to start finish straight hit 130 down here down one gear on brakes and take at full on round coppice up the hill on the left and into park keep on it apex on the right come back across to the left and peel into charlie's curve exit speed here for me was 85!!!!!. Down park straight hitting about 120 blind crest and start braking like buggery for park curve then into chris curve which is one long bend into the gooseneck an off camber right left down hill into mansfield. Got a good photo from track guy of me just scrapping side stand in here!)round at about 55. short blast to new chicane hammer out of here into turn left right and over the Mountain depending how brave you are depends on front end hieght not very for me today but it came up once (phanr phnar!!) then into the hall 'S' and start again all in all a good day off tyres front and rear and learnt some more about my riding and how much I hate rain!!! Went out for last session as it started to rain came in after 2 laps packed up came home tired very tired but with a very very big grin and feeling very self satisfied ;D

Hi there Zedhead,
As I've got my first track day booked for April, I'm looking at stripping as much road gubbins off the Z1000 as I (easily) can.
What did you strip off the front end ?
I'm toying with the idea of removing the headlight and maybe trying to "fasten on" (that's a scientific term) a black protective headlight cover to cover the space left in the front of the cowl (hope that makes sense !).
I've looked into a race front cowl (eg - a pattern fibreglass one with no headlamp hole in it) but can't find a Z1000 one, not likely either as the Z's not really a popular race / trackday tool ! Guess I could get one of the generic streetfighter ones, but I'd much prefer it to look like the Z's.
Any other ideas on trackising it !!??
Cheers,
Fletch

Cheers, Fletch i wouldnt bother stripping to much off if its your first time, youll be spending most of the day first learning the track, then getting up to speed, id think more about a strip down the next time you go, and i promise you that you will go again and again once your bitten by the bug, just take off your number plate and mirrors first time out, and maybe cover your speedo so it doesnt distract you, good luck with the track day

Cheers for the reply - good advice. There's been a change of plan and my first ever track day will now actually be THREE full days riding around CATALUNYA in April !!!! To be honest I'm cr*pping myself but the price of the event has dropped and I just couldn't not do it, even though it'll break the bank a bit ! I've got an '06 ZX636 front end to bolt on, and I have a 4into1 Muzzy system and PCIII, just need to sort the tires and I'm almost there with the bike. Oh yeah, and I need to :olearn to ride............. Cheers, Fletch

Sorry for delay in reply too much going on in my life at the moment!!
I removed the head light, mirrors, indies and rear light used some gaffer tape to fill in the holes after fitting cowlings back on
I am lucky enough to have a spare set of body work complete that I can use for track days. All purchased off Ebay over a period of time.
And relax and enjoy yourself ;D

I've done 3 track days on mine and haven't removed any bodywork (other than mirrors) for any of them. I taped up the lights/indicators but apart from that the only thing I did was tighten the suspension a little bit and reduce tyre pressures...
I'm really not that fast (600cc sports bikes come past me), but I do enjoy myself which is what it's about for me...
Now then, may get something booked for March time...
