Hi guys looking for help and info for planning a trip next year. Going to try and catch a moto gp and F1 when we're in europe somewhere??. Leaving from Glasgow and going as far as we need to over 2 weeks hopefully. Still awaiting the release of the official dates though so need some help on how to plan a route and any problems anyone else has encountered doing the same thing. Whats best ferry? chunnel? camping? hotels? any info and help would be appreciated. Thanks

Stayed 2 nights in the hotel we were supposed to be in a week (wife hated its orange walls and yellow skirting boards), we just picked a town/city and rode there. Then rode round looking for somewhere to kip, bit of a fook about, but worth it cause we seen so much more. Am looking at riding down to portugal next year/year after, getting the ferry to Spain and riding down to the Moto club de faro rally, which should be fun

I've been running around Europe for years on bikes. The best I can tell you is either plan where you want to be every night and book ahead or take a deep breath and just go. I've always done the second one. Do your budget then double it.

If you want to relax a bit and see the sights aim for 300 miles a day at most - anything else and you are riding a bike and not having a holiday. Riding a bike is great for us but can be bloody boring if your'e sitting on the back.
Hull to Zeebrugge is a good crossing although I think there is something similar from Scotland now ( Rosthyth maybe).
Personally I would go to Italy because A: You get to go over the Alps B: The food is excellent and C: An Italian sporting event is something to behold. I was there when they won the world cup -yes OK football is for faggots but the atmosphere was fantastic.
My wife doesn't like the camping thing so we go to 2 star hotels which are a lot cheaper than the UK. It also means you don't have to carry all the camping gear. Speaking of carrying gear make a list of everything you want to take and then cut it by two thirds or 90% if you are female.
I've never needed insurance but I wouldn't go without it. Hard luggage is far better than soft. Scottoiler is brilliant. Drive on the other side of the road or you won't get anywhere in a hurry.
If I think of anything elsa I'll let you know - enjoy yourself.

cheers guys for all your help. well i'm looking at two options at the moment either drive down to catch the euro star and pay 55 quid return or pay 328 quid for the long ferry route from scotland to zeebrugge i an aircraft style seat. i think i'd rather be on my hard seat on the bike than sit on a ferry for 19hours .lol we're planning to catch the german Moto gp at sachsenring and then catch the F1 at hockenheim the following week. which leaves us 6 days for touring germany and beyond. cheers guys and speak to you soon.
