planning a trip to france next year and wondered if anyone had any advice re luggage. seems from the threads below that the ventura system may be the most sensible? looking for something pillion friendly, not hugely concerned about appearance as it'll be removed soon after. already have an oxford tank bag but need more capacity at the rear and a grab rail to keep her happy any thought appreciated cheers

Ventura is the best. My mates have them and swear by them. They dont upset the handling too much either, and you wont feel like a juggernaut tryng to squeeze thru gaps!
I've gone off tank bags as they seem to interfere with the steering IMO

I was considering one of these a while back, but ended up with a kriega tailpack as I didn't need the capacity.
Anyway, am I right in thinking that the bags and racks are universal and it's just the fitting bracket that is bike specific??
If so, there are some deals to be had on ebay and then just get the kwak bracket new from Ventura...
Or am I wrong??

I'm looking at luggage options and wondered what experiences people have had with sports panniers? I'm also considering a tailpack but I fancy panniers with the seat cowl attached.
How do they fit as the backend is pretty angular?

How do they fit as the backend is pretty angular? I use oxford panniers, they fit ok and have not had any problems with them though I've never used them with the cowl on, always the seat - mind for what I get on the back of my bike, the cowl wouldn't take the weight - also use a tank bag without any major problems too ;D

i have a set of panniers to go on, but do you find they damage the paintwork? Have nto had to use mine yet but am rallying next month and do not want to hurt my Z. I am using a rentec as well, but the tent and other bits go on there!
Any advice appreciated, thanx

best to put summat on the bodywork - anti-scratch pad or masking tape to protect the plastics mate!

+1 for the tape. 2 layers of gaffa, and you can bunjee anything in place, doesnt hurt the stuff to jump on half a roll so it'll squeeze under the seat either

Gaffa tape glue wipes off with any decent degreaser, then a quick polish an done, happy camping

I use a tee shirt pulled over all the bits with a cut for the pillion seat indicators and so on, bit of tape and then the bugie's dont mark your baby.
