my 14000 mile thou refused to start this mornin', pushed starter button, after about 3 seconds, FI warning light flashes then stays on when button is released. Just been in garage for 2 hours and checked likely causes....moisture, fuses, it had been running perfect all year, i average about 300 miles a week when i'm using it for work and not a problem until now, anyone suggest where to start before paying for diognostic labour charges? ps i'm running full akropovic/power commander/k&n all professionally fitted 8000 miles ago...help!?!?

Start on the simple things.....battery terminals loose/damaged, battery fluid level low and the battery has gone dead? Any of the earth wires got corroded? Does the starter make any noise when its pushed?

I know it will be a pain, tank off etc, but try it without the Power Commander! Dont take it off, just re-connect to the standard plug fitting and see what you get? I have heard they go wrong, no problems with mine upto now, but I have been warned that if there are problems to isolate the PC before looking elsewhere. Good luck.

"Take your motorcycle to your nearest authorised Kawasaki dealer" Start on the simple things.....battery terminals loose/damaged, battery fluid level low and the battery has gone dead? Any of the earth wires got corroded? Does the starter make any noise when its pushed? Yes I agree with kwakbiker, Does it actually try to fire up? Is the engine turning? What is actually happening when you try to start it? The FI light signals a problem with your fueling system, some are just safety systems from the engine management system and can easily be solved by reseting....flicking your kill switch on and off. The FI light should give long and short pulses and these actually tell you what the problem is. Here is part of the guide to what they mean: These pictures are from the service manual and this explains further about the system. WOW! What can I say, thank you one and all, I've got plenty to consider there for a plan of action, my only problem being a long working day meaning I only get weekends to play(may take a days holiday....sickie?) A further answer is the starter is turnin' over the engine without any problems The FI light blinks rapidly after 2 seconds of turning over engine and remains lit when finger is released, battery fully charged..optimate and all terminals appear clean and tight. thanks again....(not so)fastorange!!!

weekend arrived, bike up on abbasport and front paddock and went over all engine/fuel sensors, some a little gritty (TPS QUITE BAD) checked and double checked everything!!!. Then with everything crossed, hit the starter button............BINGO!!!!! one healthy sounding zed. In hindsight, I probably should have checked starter after every sensor cleaned, that way I would have the culprit! IMPORTANT THING IS, IT'S ok NOW, THANKS AGAIN GUYS COLIN C FASTORANGE.

Original fix-it only lasted a week or so before the problem came back,so bike was hoiked? over to the rocket centre where the problem was diognosed.........crankshaft position sensor £45 later, the bikes now running perfect once more. Just a final note Z1000's are a bit iffy in the electrics department(all that nakedness) keep everything spotless, expecially in the next few months! PS WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY, MINE NEEDED A NEW ECU AND FUEL INJECTORS LUCKILY KMUK FOOTED THE£2OOO+ BILL.....BE VERY AWARE.
