As I have mentioned in a previous thread I still have this knocking/chattering/rattle coming from the front end.
Its not the clutch lever as I have shimmed that so there is no play, the headset is fine. Its definitely seems to be coming from the forks and initially when using the first 10/20 mm of travel. I can feel it most of the time and at the moment I hate the bike despite loving how it looks.
I have arranged for maxton suspension specialists to rebuild my forks with new cartridges, valves etc etc (their standard conversion) on tuesday but just wondered if anyone else has this problem.
Steering also feels heavy and stiff but when I jack the bike up the steering is smooth and fine with no stiffness in the movement.
Any comments?
New to this z1000 life so all help welcomed.
Thanks Lee

Hey there. I have exactly the same problem with my front end.A clattering noise when I ride over small sharp bumps. It just seems to be in the top of the stroke. Did your mods solve the problem?

Got a similar thing starting on mine(53 plate with 17kish), going to be servicing the forks next weekend so hopefully that will reveal a cause, im hoping for crappy fork oil and not fooked internals

I dont wish anybody to have problems with their bike but at least Im not going crazy and Im not the only one!!
Im taking my forks to maxton today and I will have them back in a week so will let you know. I should know immediately though as I can make the noise when I sit on the bike stationary and jsut compress the forks slightly.
Like you say its in the first 10/15mm of compression. I think its something to do with oil, springs so im praying maxton will get it sorted as they keep very little from the original internals of the forks.

Okay....................so delivered my forks to Maxton Suspension today. What a great workshop. The place is immaculate and you could eat your lunch off the floor (well maybe not but initial reaction was wow! these guys really know what they are doing.)
Met with Richard who took my rider weight with bike gear and then asked the type of riding I do.
Next he explained just what they do with the forks and took out some examples to show me the internals. They pretty much disgard everything apart from the bottom piston rod.
The forks are then sprung, vavled, correct oil weight etc etc to your weight and riding style. Both forks have rebound damping and he assures me they are a vast improvement on stock.
Anyway when I get them back and refitted I will let you know how I find them.
