Ok - here we go.....not a difficult install by any means but a little bit time consuming as the front tank panels have to come off, the seat, rear seat and loosen the rear side panels so the tank can be temporarily lifted to run the cable from the front to the back.... So, there it is. Thats what comes in the bag. I went for the stock red led (apparently its the brightest...) Ive mounted mine here - stuck it to the heated grip controller. Theres the route ive taken - along with everything else running from that side. As an alternative you could stick it to the side of the clocks (which is where i think most would put it and, i was about to but then saw the mount point on the side of the oxford controller...if you do go that way take you can run the cable underneath the clocks and exit just under the small front running light....the wire wont be visible.... Once ive come out the underneath of the clock area (along with the main loom) i bring the wire up inside the frame which comes up underneath the tank (along the top of the airbox, or round the side, doesnt matter) and then exit at the back of the tank and feed the wire underneath the main hinge and end up underneath the seat.... Then, plug the wire into the diagnostics plug which is tucked away....
Plug into that white plug and thats it, reassemble the bike and switch the ignition on, where it should count down from 6 to 1. Heres a few more pic of it.... Stuff ive noticed: The plastic that covers the display is quite soft so will have to see how it weathers. Rode it to work this morning, apparently its pre configured for kwaks so ive not done any setup atall. Its not as "instant" as a gear change sensor thats attached directly to the engine (ie an oem install) so when you change gear the GiPro follows about a second or so afterwards ( i can only gather thats where its plugged into the diag port). Also, based on that i think it needs to sense the engine being revved to give you a gear number....ie i was coming to a halt this morning rolling up to a set of lights, i was in third and from there bumped down to 1st....the indicator stayed at 3 but once i was down to 1st, blipped the throttle and then it changed. Now im not sure if "thats the way it is" or, i need to set it up in custom mode, ill see if i can find out. Anyway, so far, does what it says on the tin which is good enough for me. My other bike is an RSV4 factory with the most opposite gearbox to the zed....its really long, so, when i ride that i find im normally in 5th (when i think im in 6th) and on the zed in 6th and then going for the "phantom 6th" hence the GiPro. Hope that helps you all out there...

Just a shame Kawasaki did not incorporate a gear position indicator in all their modern bikes, I am always confused whether I am in 5th or 6th. A great addition and excellent information from you once again Comfy.... definitely this sites Guru

Yeah - it really does seem like I get one or the other....rsv (gear change but no fuel amount) zed (fuel guage but no gear change) ktm supermoto - neither, hypermotard - neither....seems like a pretty simple thing but no....cant seem to get both together, one or the other or neither.....

The first (and only) issue I noticed was the slight delay in indication. Sometimes if I`m at the lights I have to just dip the clutch slightly to let it catch up.

Mine is the same as well. Only seems to read when the clutch is released. Still helpful tho. Made a difference a few times already. Had issues where and how to stick mine on. Ended up using the glue gun on the bit of plastic next to the ignition. Didn't want to interfere with the instruments view. Like it next to the hand grip warmer control.

Just ripped the useless datatool bugger out. But can you tell me where to diagnostic cable is on the 03 model ? Don't want to make the same mistake again and order the wrong one, from gopro?

Hat off and had a peek the only cable for the diagnostics is a single female bullet connection that gets earthed while looking at the FI light and counting the number of flashes, to get the error codes.

Garboy - is yours a gen 1 - just checking first...sorry never got to it last night...
Well - carrying on - I went to the gipro site and based on the fact yours is a gen 1 this one fits...looks like you've got the same diag port as mine (Gen4)

Yes mine is a gen 1. found the plug under the seat. Gopro ordered should be here by Thursday on the bike by Frid. looking forward to seeing it on the bike and working when I go on a run out with my mates.
Many thanks for your help, just wished I had got in touch with the forum before I bought the datatool piece of crap.

Glad you got it sorted dude. The heal tech stuff is good. Going to give the quickshifter a go at some point. It is a nice addition as well. I hardly use mine but when I do forget what gear I'm in its just a glance down and all sorted. No more being unsure if I'm in fifth or sixth.

Don't know? Sound S weird when it was already set up and working. Do remember that they are supposed to self set up once connected. Just plug and play. There was some instructions on manual set up though. Perhaps email at healtech?
