Well, nearing the completion of my restoration project on my 41,000 mile Zed. Just got the panels back from my good friend, Steve, at Lonsdale bike. I opted for Triumph Roulette green & got to admit it looks stunning. Everything has gone well but I've now run in to a problem & need some help if anyone can shed any light. The throttle bodies were badly oxidised & covered in crap. I carefully cleaned what I could see without taking anything off. I carefully removed the Main throttle sensor & the secondary throttle sensor, cleaned around them without disturbing anything & then carefully plugged them back exactly where they came off. Tightened everything up & finished cleaning. Now the problem, when I turn the ignition on, the whirring noise that they make appears to be different, not as crisp as it was & the FI light stays on. The bike starts & appears to run ok but I dont want to carry on in case I damage anything. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful Thanks in advance, Neil Attachments:

Now sorted! According to the workshop manual, these sensor are pre-set at the factory & removing them means that they can never be set up & that you have to buy a complete set of throttle bodies. I spoke to local Kawasaki dealer who said the same & was going to price some up. While I was waiting I scoured the net & got very little info. The only glimmer was a US site for a ZX10R throttle sensor problem That suggested a sticky valve. I decided to remove the sub throttle sensor & turn the key on to see if the shaft was turning. It turned ok & went back to the start position. I did this a few times & put the sensor back on. Hey presto, weird noise stopped & FI light gone out. Had it running for 20 mins & it's spot on. I just thought that I couldn't make the problem any worse & if I needed throttle bodies then so be it. BTW the Kawasaki dealer came back to me & quoted....£1697.48 PLUS vat So glad it worked. My advice to anyone taking them off - mark their position with a paint spot!

That's good news Polisher........LMAO at your Kawasaki dealership for 1) not knowing 2) trying to charge you £1,600+ for new throttle bodies!
Sometimes just removing and refitting something yields the solution. Thanks for reporting back with your findings and congratulations on figuring it out.
