Hi just wondering if anybody has any ideas, I've recently had the 15,000 mile service done and had new shims put in. I went on a long ride to wales this weekend and the bike has started to make a knocking noise which you can feel through the foot pegs when the engine is under load. Has anybody got any ideas what it could be cheers

Can you hear it when the bike is ticking over or just when you are riding or all the time?

Check the basic stuff first chain and sprocket a knacked chain tight link would cause vibration through pegs check front sprocket is tight oil level of engine failing that it sounds pretty sick a knocking under load could be pinking try a better grade of petrol and see if it improves or at the service could of over tightened a valve and its now connecting with piston (pinking) more common under load or hard acceleration but this is more of tea spoon sound taping a glass rather than a knocking a knocking noise under load is normally the bottom end of the engine big ends or main bearings check the basic stuff and failing that take it back to who serviced it and tell them it was not doing it prior to service

If I pull the clutch in and coast its there, it was worse when I had a pillion on coming off roundabouts I had to slip the clutch to get the revs up to about 5 - 6 thousands where it isn’t that noticeable.

Oil levels are OK and the chain and rear sprocket are OK not sure about the front sprocket I've not checked that yet. I don't have to much confidence with the service as I had to take the bike back straight away after the service to have the front wheel bearings replaced as they where knacked and they missed it. (not sure how as you could tell just by pushing the bike). I remember reading on the US site about knocking noises coming from Z1000s after they had their oil changed. This was due to an airlock at the oil filter.

sorry what I mean is that its more noticeable when under load as a knocking coming through the foot pegs, but I can also feel it when the clutch is in and just coasting along but not as bad. On the trip from Cardiff to Sheffield it was that bad it made my feet go numb, which hasn't happened before. ok so i am a little confused first the noise was under load now its there with clutch in ( no load ) i would keep checkin wheels brakes chian sprocket lift the rear of bike spin the wheel see if ya hear anything possibly problem with the front wheel bearing as thats been done

Given my bike a good clean and checked everything over and it all looks ok the only thing I noticed, was when I was oiling the chain as I was slowly turning the back tire there was a notchy feeling (the chain is ok). Going to go out for a ride later to see how it runs if its still there then I'll take the back wheel out to rule that out.
