Was working with a bloke the other day and he mentioned that he had been to a place called shell island in wales. Apparently it is basicaly an island where you camp pretty much where you want. Interested, i looked on the net and could only find this rather poor website www.shellisland.co.uk/on there it mentions that motorbikes arnt permitted. I emailed them about this and got the following reply "Motorbikes are not allowed on site but they can stay by our gate house which has 24 hr security and cctv so they are safe. we let you on with the bikes then you bring them back to the gate house when you have unloaded. hope this is ok." I like the idea of having the bike watched over 24hours but would rather it be by my tent. Has anyone any experience or know anything about the island? Good or bad experience? The bike issue a problem (walking)? What i wanted to do was set off from here with the girlie, ride through wales, set up camp, have a few beers, camp through the night and then come home. Id love to hear if anyone has any experience of the place AND/OR any other great places to go for a short break. Cheers guys

Hi, my son goes to shell island every year with one of his mates and parent s and they love it, cant say I've had any experience of it though. I dont know where you would be travelling from but there is a camp site near to where I live which I have stayed on a few times before moving to the area. Its just outside of Banbury, Oxfordshire, and the first time I went there I was on my bike and the owners couldn't do enough for me and even gave me a block of wood to put under my sidestand. Check out the link www.bo-peep.demon.co.uk/hope this is of some use to you

As a resident of North Wales I have to say Shell Island is a great place to visit....not used the camp site there, but camped in other places around there with no problems! Hope the weather stays nice for you if you decide to come.
