Rear shock is full of concrete/back end throws up no end of crap. I had an FJ1200 since 1987 and had no intention of changing it. I was on my holidays in Rhodes last May and saw a black Z750-didn't even know they existed. Came home and bought one-absolutely f*****g brilliant!

I absolutely love riding my Z750. I can understand the feelings toward the shock, but it doesn't bother me - maybe that's just our roads here.
Fantastic bike... Barely have a complaint to make at all!

Just got one after 10 years on sports bikes, love it to bits, just a few things they could have done to improved it, same rad cowling and screen as the z1000 would have been nice, suspension, although not bad, could have been better with some adjustment at the front due to it being slightly underdamped, that said I'm in the process of upgrading the fork oil to 15w on recommendation from my local suspension specialists, be interesting to see what difference that makes, standard 10w isnt bad, just find the front end gets a little out of shape on bends with a poor road surface!

Malteeza, Mine was an 86 too. I flogged it to a mate and I've got first shout if he wants to sell it. I thought the Z would feel gutless what with losing 450 cc and having another gear but I was very pleasantly surprised at what 20 years of engine development can do. Having some ground clearance is nice too.

Hm, I don't have too many complaints other than finding it a little under powered in the first couple of gears, although I'm also a former twin man so maybe that accounts for it? Got 1,100mi on the clock now and I've only hit the redline once...maybe I should just give it the berries? ~maninblack

;D My Z750 just makes me giggle! I've got a 1998 R1 which is great and I'll never get rid of it, but you can just have a great laugh on the Z and not take yourself too seriously! Only thing is I like to tinker and after riding it a few times decided the suspension needed some attention, so have got an 04 ZX636 shock on its way for starters as have been looking at other forums and it seems to improve things!! Let me know if anyones got any good tips?

the z750 being my first bike i cant really compare it, but i love it.. i agree the back end does through up an endless amount of crap.. but thats what you get travelling to work everyday for 20 mile.. the bike itself is very sexy.. and it seems to get alot of ladie attention to when i park in town.. hmmhmm

Hi. Newb here. First post may as well be about thoughts on my new Zed (205 miles on the clock and counting). Coming from a tired high mileage Thundercat that I rode into the ground over the last four years I have no problems at all with the suspenders on the Kwak. In fact I'm loving the bike big time. The styling is nasty and the orange is attention grabbing to the extent that parking up next to my mates new Green 636 we're just one glitterball away from a seventies disco!
On the road it's quicker steering than the 'Cat and the difference in weather protection isn't as great as I thought it would be. The riding position is comfier around town with less weight on the wrists and really encourages hooligan behaviour. Pegs aren't as low as I thought they would be either so ground clearance isn't an issue (Yet! tyres still scrubbing in).
Engine feels very torquey. The 'Cat had fantastic low-down grunt for a 600cc supersport. Top gear roll-on from 30mph were a breeze compared to my neighbours CBR600. Well, the Zed feels like it'll walk all over the 'Cat, I can't wait for the engine to get run in to really give it some jellys.
Things I'd change. Would like a bit more wind protection but I've already ordered a Kwak genuine screen to fitted at the first service. I like the exhausts finish and shape but just wish it was a bit lighter and shorter. Happy with the muted bass note though. I'm a CBT instructor and the Micron race can on the 'Cat made listening to the pupils engine impossible. The rear number plate holders days are numbered with a tail tidy being ordered shortly. The only other things to change are orange wheel pinstripes (tart) and painting the fake frame covers black. The silver doesn't quite go with the rest of the colour scheme.

I love it But I agree the rear shock is too hard and has a harsh feel to it, Softened the pre-load a tad and its better but not ideal, front forks are the opposite IE too soft. Motor is plenty powerful enough but a little buzzy at 6-7K Front brakes are OK but feel dead, no feel or modulation to the lever, rear is the best I ever used which is bloody typical as I hardly ever use it. Handling wise its fine for most riding So all in all not perfect but I still love it.

Only had my Z750 for 2 weeks but I love it! Rear end feels like a 'Spacehopper' over anything but the smallest of bumps and also seems to have a strange airflow pattern over the front, even at relatively low speeds, that can sometimes cause a quite unnerving 'buffeting' effect but I have a feeling this might be due to the 'Ermax' screen thats on the bike ( 'spose it could also be the fact that the air vents in the sleeve's of my jacket have been permantly open due to the excessive heet of the past weeks and are acting as airbrakes??? Tee Hee!!) Anyway's I'm hoping to change the rear shock this week, I could go for the ZX636 shock but I would prefer an Ohlins......Can anyone give me a model no for one of these? I've looked on the Ohlins website but they don't appear to have one listed for the Z750. Also will I need to do any mod's to fit one?
Thank's all

Eyup geezer I've just dug the box out for my Ohlins (aren't I good to ya) and here are the codes on it: KA 347 KAW Z750 #46PRC TKA 347.301249 1PKA 347 OHKA 347 I think the actual product code is probably OHKA 347. No mods required to fit, you just need something to support the bike while you do it. When you've got it fitted, it's worth paying a suspension expert the tenner or so to set it up to match the forks, don't assume it will come set up for the zed unless Ohlins specifically say so.

No mods required to fit, you just need something to support the bike while you do it. You need MotoLadder (patent pending). New from JML, the only way to change your swinging arm and shock absorbers. Available from all good DIY stores now. ;D

Bought the the z750 in 04,just made the last payment..hooray.took a long time deciding on wether to get the zed because i loved the look but i knew it was going to have issues because of the price,it is a budget bike afterall and there going to save money somewhere and thats most definatelly on the suspenders .my previous bike was a zx7r so i went from argueably the best front end to a crap one,i tried hagons springs 1st and found them too hard although an improvment over stock so i got b1h front end from the states and thats made a hugh difference although i will get em to kais to get em revalved-sprung for the zed now i've finnished paying for the zed.i put a 636 shock in the rear and its loads better than stock also.considering you can now pick a z750 up for 3k used i recon they will become as popular as the bandit...IMO

Tyco, Do you need the complete front end, yokes, wheels, spacers etc coz i'm v interested in doing this conversion. Is it a straight bolt on or is some engineering involved?

No you dont need the full front end. There are a few options,i went with Z1000 yokes, had a front wheel spindle, wheel spacers, caliper spacers fabricated to retain my z750 spoke wheel,i'de almost gave up on sourcing z1k yokes coz they dont come up very often so i was going to use the zx636 b1h yokes and fit clip ons to the top 25mm of protruding fork tops as the 636 forks are 25mm longer than the z750.

21,000 miles in 19 months on z750, acf keeps the rust away, ohlins rear, re springed front, all necessary. For sound and bling: Akravovic .belly pan, cowl,rg everywhere, vario screen. For protection: Inforad, Goodridge hose on front. No problems, but the 15k service costs a bundle. Bt 14 and bt20 in winter

Loving the zed at the moment, finally found a bike that i can stick with after having a couple of sports bikes in 2 years. Also had a supermoto, but the power at times on long ride outs became a pain,so went for the z750,streetfighter style(bit similar to the moto, as i have wide bars fitted) but with more power when needed. Only issue really is the naff front forks, and the rear suspension,at speed over bumps, nah feel good! I stiffened the rear shock, from stock as it stated for 81kg rider, but after reading on here,it needs softening i guess,so will go put it back to standard setting.
