Afternoon all. This could be an interesting one. A new guy has just registered on the forum and ive been chatting with him by email about his mod. Hes got pics but cant post them so has email them to me...so ill try to put them up in the right order but essentially he removed the airbox, lopped off the bottom (reducing the volume) but, smoothing out the flow on the air's journed to the throttle bodies. He done this to a zx-10 and has some really good gains (he hasnt told me what they were yet) but has applied the same theory to the zed....once done has put reflective heat tape on the bottom and sides - (something ive been toying with) but i reckon ill be doing soon.! He cant get to a dyno yet because of the lockdown (hes in the Philippines) but i cant wait to see the results which ever way it goes.!

I reckon this will be a good mod...and, reasonably easy to do, and a second hand airbox will be bugger all so you can get one, and, effectively experiment then fit to the bike once youve got it right..!

Well, a second hand airbox costs 30 quid so its worth a punt....you can get it right and then just stick it on the bike...hes got a point though....one of the "you have to do this" mods for the rsv4 is to fit the airbox from the newest model as its a slightly different shape...

intersting, alays a bit skeptical of airbox mods but if nothing else you might get a better induction roar,

So, ive got DIY'ing to be done so done a bit of that and a bit of airbox stuff today....airbox turned up this morning...on a sunday...!
To try to describe a little bit....with a dremmel - not really that hard to do...i sliced round the edge but that didnt come off straight away...so kinda sliced across the back of it...
Got it away cut off in the end...
Found an old tea tray which served its last as it became the backing for the airbox. About 3mm thick so nice and sturdy...

The other thing is that, assuming that i get it stuck back together - ill nip out for a quick test but as ive got no access to a dyno the only way ill be able to give an honest opinion is from the ass dyno and, im pretty sure its going to throw out the air/fuel ratio so to get the best out of it, it'll have to be dyno'd to get the best out of it....altough that'll cost a bit...so - if the ass dyno is positive then ill get it back on the dyno...

Had a brand new bottle of gorilla glue here....just tried that...see what happens tomorrow...i was thinking initially get it gorilla glued so its initially stuck, then when its gone off, build it up and then finish with silicone. Once thats done then seal it up with the tape.

making good progress, silicon sealant will stick it just fine when its gone off, used that to stick my carbon frome guards on and solid as a rock,

Well, the glue held....so - gonna go round with the glue and then seal from the inside with silicone, then, seal up with the gold tape....as im loosing volume i might drill some holes in the side to get a bit more air in there. Now i might say and for the record this was the case last time at the dyno....drilling holes into the side of the airbox made no difference to the output....the last time before i last went i had no holes, then when i last went (holes drilled - exhaust config changed to a single exit) it made exactly the same amount of power (although the air/fuel ratio was out)...

Adding more glue around the edge and letting it go off. Ive got a long weekend booked in this weekend so ill get it fitted then - assuming i can find some silicone.

The surplus glue just cracks away. Its a bit proud on one side but ill trim that down with the Dremmel once it all glued up...
