have looked on here and on z1000.net, information overload on this matter. Which way is the best way? zx10 shock, linkage and dog bones? just the shock and swap the spring? Want to keep the ride height the same and as I understand it the zx10 shock on its own will drop the height? Any advice will do

Andy, I fitted a complete rear shock assembly from a '03 ZX6R (BH1?) while I had my Ohlins off for a service, and found it rode really well. That first B models rear shock was criticized for being too harsh, and that fact that the spring is too stiff for the 6's weight pays off when the shock is fitted to the heavier Z. Matt.

I have put just the ZX10 shock on mine (trimmed the rear bush manually to fit). It went on okay and maintained the ride height as it was. I've since fitted slightly shorter dogbones to give approx 20mm lift and it feels a bit better to me with the extra height...

My shock not fitted yet, so cant help with ride height, but if you want to take the ZX10 one out at a later date, just buy the shock mount bush #42036-1258 for less than £4. instead of trimming 2mm off the Zthou one.
