Anybody done this themselves? Do you need just 1 vac gauge and do each body individually, or a bank of 4 to do them all together? Any one have a step by step??

Done it a couple of times and they haven't been out much. You need a bank of 4 and a copy of the manual. It's a bit hard to work out from the diagram at first and if your'e just balancing you have to ignore the specific figure given and just make sure all 4 read the same. You can get a manual here: z1000.riderdestination.com/

Picked up a bank of 4 vac gauges for £20, so its out with the manual and give it a bash next week. I'll let you know how it goes, and if it runs any smoother once balanced.

Hi Matt Before you get all exited and mess your Z's throttle bodies. get your bike nice & warm and check each gauge shows the same reading on one cylinder. for £20 i would not expect precision but you might be lucky of course. I know it's an odd thing for me to say but have bought 3 banks of Gauges like you mention and not had better than 10% between gauge readings when all tested on one cylinder. (12% was closest reading on any 2 gauges!) Spent £75 eventually to get a set that worked well enough to do the balancing. the best set of gauges i ever owned had 4 glass tubes full of mercury and they where perfect, Can't remember who made them. as usual somone borrowed then and never returned them Regards Rick

Cheers Rick, Thats good info, I'll certainly be trying to calibrate each gauge from one source first. I got these £20, used once. They're £40-45 new, so not exactly in snap ons class, but I'm hoping I can get them close enough to check that the balance isn't too far out. Once this is done, its time for an oil change, and get it booked in for its dyno set up at HoleShot racing. I can work out how much each HP has cost me then Regards, Matt.

The mercury gauges are made by John Morgan in Belfast. That's what I use. If we could get enough interest for a bulk buy I could try and sort out a discount with him. I don't know what the score is with sending mercury through the post though.

Believe the morgan tubes are mercury free nowadays, still some of the best around tho, about £50
