Hi Deecat
Don't waste your time on the Z1000 std shock.
Buy yourself a ZX6r/ZX10r 03 04 05 shock off Ebay.
I paid £40 for a brand new 04 ZX6 B2h rear shock.
Works brilliant on the std ZX6 settings. Regards Rick

Hi Preludedragon the shock from the ZX6R B1H /B2H 2003-2004 is a straight swap. Identical fittings and length. if you weigh more than 12 & a half stone you might want to fit your STD Z1000 spring onto the ZX6 shock. You can also fit ZX6/ZX10 2005-2006 rear shocks but they need a very slight mod to allow the lower fork to fit the Z-1000 linkage. Makes an enormous difference over the std Z1000 shock. No more skipping off small back lane ripples & wallowing on fast sweepers. The Z1000 suspension is made on a Budget and the sports models are better made and allow full adjustment. i found the std rear shock had far too much low speed compression damping for me. not too bad a high speed until it got hot then bouncy bouncy. Hope this helps?. Regards Rick

hmm, I have been thinking about replacing the shock and was recommended the ZX6 standard one, but didn't know which model was a straight swop, so thanks for that info

Just fiited a ZX10R 04/05 shock, linkage and dogbones. Straight swap, no messing, dead easy. I just need to to ride it now to see the difference.

Is it Ok to do this mod to the rear without doing anything to the forks?
I'm keen to do the simple change of swaping the rear shocker for a ZX10R but was wondering if it might create a mis-match between the two.
Apologies if this sounds a bit stooopid ;D

I've got a zx10r rear and a standard front end and it's certainly not a problem or a mis-match.
The front end is definately worse than the back - but I can't afford to do much about that right now.....

Buy yourself a ZX6r/ZX10r 03 04 05 shock off Ebay. Are these direct bolt on's without any modifications?

Provided you get the linkage and bottom shock bolt, then yes.

When you say linkage - Is that the dog-bone shaped bits?

No, its the bit of metal that the shock and dogbones attach to, and then attaches to the frame.

So does that mean I will be ok to use the original dog-bones?
I've got myself a zx10r 05 rear shock with the bottom linkage and the lower bolt - but not the dog bones.
Thanks very much for the advice.
